Her Story

Hi, my name is Valerie and this is my story. I’ve been battling a lung mass for over a year. Spring of 2016, I’d developed a mild cough that wouldn’t go away, always feeling tired and weak with a shortness of breath.
After seeing an allergist, my diagnoses was allergies. He prescribed inhalers, cough suppressants, and nasal spray. During the following year, my cough worsened and I was more fatigued, to the point I could not walk a short distance without sweating.

After becoming ill, August 2018 I went to the emergency room and was diagnosed with pneumonia. The ER Doctor said there was a spot on my right lung, urged me to have it checked right away. I was referred to an oncologist who did a CT scan and prescribed antibiotics and steroids, with a follow-up appointment in 30 days for another CT scan. At that time, I was informed the lung nodule had shrunk from 14m to 6 mm. However, the cough, fatigue, and sweating never went away. The oncologist assured me this wasn’t cancer and released from her office.
Mid October during an annual physical exam, I was advised to have another scan as the only way to be sure this wasn’t cancer was to have a biopsy. August 2018 I had another scan, and to my surprise, the first nodule was still there at 6mm but, I had new ones that were 2.7 cm to 3.7 cm. They gave me another round of antibiotics and steroids, which made me ill. At this point, I was feeling frustrated with my care, and this mass continued to grow as my health continued to decline.
September 2018, switched to Baylor physicians, they did a complete work up on me, and by October 17th, my upper right lobe was removed. This whole experience knocked me off my feet, no cancer but I am battling a lung diseases called Sarcoidosis. I plan to put this disease into remission by continuing my plant-based vegan diet, low stress, exercise and controlling toxins in my environment.
